Instructions for use Piercing First Aid Kit
Cartilage bumps, how do you get rid of them?
It can happen that after a while you suddenly see a bump appear around your piercing. Not nice of course, but in general this is very common. There can be several causes for these bumps, but they are usually caused by a small bacterial infection and/or excessive scar tissue. In both cases it is often just a matter of bad luck, because due to the longer healing time a cartilage piercing is exposed to all kinds of external influences that can cause a bump. Usually such a bump does not look very nice, but you do not suffer much from it. Sometimes they can be a bit sensitive or itchy. As soon as you notice that you are bothered by it more, it is important that you check it with your piercer or GP of course.

Ok, bump spotted, my patience is up, how do I get it off and how does the Piercing First Aid Kit work?

Your Piercing First Aid Kit contains the following items:

  • Silicone Healing Discs: 6 discs that prevent irritation of the jewelry and help reduce cartilage bumps.
  • Salt: to make a warm or cold saline solution. A warm saline solution cleans your piercing and promotes blood circulation.
  • Tea Tree: an essential oil that should be in every first aid kit! Tea Tree helps prevent bacterial growth and thus helps fight infections.
  • Sterile Gauze Compresses: 5x 2 gauze compresses to clean your piercing. Sterile packed and lint-free.

Saline Solution – A warm saline solution stimulates blood circulation and gently cleans your piercing. A saline solution is easy to make and use. Make a standard saline solution and soak a clean gauze in it. Then place this on the affected area and apply light pressure. Hold this until the gauze has cooled down completely. Then repeat this once a day for about 6-8 days and rinse the saline solution away with clean (warm) water afterwards.

How do you make a saline solution?

You need:

  • a glass, cup or mug. Spotlessly clean!
  • 250 ml (tap) water
  • 1/4 (a quarter) teaspoon of salt
  • extra water to rinse your mug or glass

Bring a large amount of water to the boil. When the water has boiled, rinse your glass or mug with water that has just come off the boil. Pour 250 ml of boiled water into your glass or mug, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and stir until all the crystals have dissolved. Your saline solution is now ready to use.

Healing Discs – Our healing discs are small silicone discs that you wear around the bar of your piercing. The discs exert a light pressure on the piercing, which will make the bump disappear faster. In combination with daily rinsing with warm water (for example in the shower) or a warm saline solution, you will often notice an improvement soon.

How do you use our Healing Discs?

Remove a disc from the packaging and clean it (for example with some water and soap, rinse well). Place the disc over your piercing jewelry so that it is placed on the spot of the bump. Then slide the disc against the cartilage bump. After a few days you will usually notice an improvement.

Tea Tree Oil - Essential oils can also provide relief from irritation. Many people achieve good results with Tea Tree oil, but preferably use tea tree oil diluted because pure essential oil can irritate the skin.
Add a few drops of Tea Tree oil to your (warm) sea salt solution to give your saline solution an extra healing boost.
