It is a fact that your body is in for a hormonal roller coaster. Not only does your belly grow, but your breasts and nipples will also change under the influence of pregnancy hormones. In most cases, you will notice that your nipples become somewhat larger during pregnancy, and you will probably need a different size of jewelry for your nipple piercing. So change in time and preferably choose a threadless piercing bar for your nipple piercing, so that you can easily keep the jewelry clean.
Are you planning to have nipple piercings and do you want to have children? Then make sure that you have the piercing done at least 1 year before you want to fulfill your desire to have children, so that they have plenty of time to heal properly.
Breastfeeding with a nipple piercing
It may seem like a challenge, but it is usually no problem to breastfeed with a well-healed nipple piercing. Your nipple piercing naturally goes right through your nipple and pierces a number of milk ducts. But fortunately, your nipple contains quite a few milk ducts, so in most cases your piercing is absolutely no obstacle to successful breastfeeding. There is even a chance that the milk will flow more easily through a pierced nipple.
Take off your piercing jewelry during feeding!
This is actually a very logical one, but it is super important: take off your nipple piercing jewelry before feeding. Piercing jewelry primarily poses a risk of choking for your baby, but it also prevents your baby from latching on properly because your nipple cannot form properly to your child's mouth with piercing jewelry.
After feeding, you can of course simply put your nipple piercing back in. Therefore, choose a good quality nipple piercing, such as a threadless piercing bar. You can also opt for nipple piercings with internal thread, and possibly use an insertion pin in the right size to put your nipple piercing back in. Also clean your jewelry and piercing well before you put it in, preferably with a mild piercing soap.
After breastfeeding
Even after breastfeeding, there is a good chance that your nipples will be different than before pregnancy. Your nipples may be a bit larger, especially just after feeding. Therefore, choose comfortable piercing jewelry with enough space (but not too much of course) and regularly check whether the size is still correct. Your nipples will probably become a bit smaller over time, in which case choose a slightly shorter piece of jewelry again.
What do you need?
A threadless piercing bar in the right length
Mild piercing soap, to keep your jewelry and nipple piercing clean
Possibly an insertion pin, so that you can easily change your jewelry
